Sa beaut\u00e9 unique a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couverte en 1952, lorsqu'elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9clar\u00e9e zone strictement prot\u00e9g\u00e9e ne pouvant \u00eatre utilis\u00e9e que \u00e0 des fins scientifiques et \u00e9ducatives. Ce qui rend cette for\u00eat sp\u00e9ciale, c'est son \u00e2ge d'environ 20 000 ans, ainsi que la masse de bois et la hauteur d'un grand nombre d'arbres, qui d\u00e9passe parfois 50 m\u00e8tres, tandis que leur \u00e2ge atteint jusqu'\u00e0 300 ans. En 1954, Peru\u0107ica a \u00e9t\u00e9 plac\u00e9e sous protection \u00e9tatique et d\u00e9clar\u00e9e r\u00e9serve naturelle, et elle est devenue une partie du parc national de Sutjeska apr\u00e8s sa cr\u00e9ation en 1962. Une attraction sp\u00e9ciale dans cette for\u00eat est la cascade de Skakavac, form\u00e9e sur la rivi\u00e8re Peru\u0107ica, un petit ruisseau de montagne, situ\u00e9 au c\u0153ur de la for\u00eat primaire de Peru\u0107ica.
